The effects of the national economic downturn continue to be felt in Illinois, according to the University of Illinois Flash Index, which dropped to 100.6 in October, its lowest reading in more than four years.

IGPA’s Regional Institute for Community Policing (RICP) will conduct an All Animals – All Disaster Workshop in Charlotte, North Carolina on Wednesday, Oct. 29. The workshop will promote the importance of planning to deal with animals as part of all emergency management plans.

Former Illinois Gov. and IGPA Distinguished Fellow Jim Edgar says Barack Obama faces one of the toughest tests of any incoming president, inheriting a deep economic crisis and two wars when he takes office in January.
Race is a powerful determinant of how whites regard a neighborhood, according to a recent study by IGPA's Maria Krysan that appears in the latest issue of Du Bois Review: Social Science Research on Race.
Senator Richard G. Lugar of Indiana called upon public officials to serve with an attitude of bipartisanship when he spoke to a University of Illinois audience on Veteran's Day. Lugar, recipient of the 2007 Paul H. Douglas Ethics in Government Award, delivered the Douglas Education Lecture.
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan will join former Gov. Jim Edgar to analyze the results of the 2008 election, nationally and in Illinois, at the next Springfield Policy Luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 6.
