Race and Public Policy

Faculty in the Race and Public Policy Program conduct and distribute research of policy issues related to race or ethnicity, and policy issues that are of particular concern to urban communities.

Faculty in this program produce analysis and opportunities for education and public engagement on such topics as poverty, housing discrimination, changes in urban neighborhoods, and the impact of immigrants on the state of Illinois and communities within the state.

The Race and Public Policy Program is home to the Chicago Area Study, a multidisciplinary research and training program aimed at generating data on issues of race and ethnicity. The CAS is used to produce information that is valuable to the Chicago metropolitan area, develop and test theories about pressing questions surrounding the changing demography in the state, and provides a training program in survey research methods for graduate students spanning several academic disciplines.
